Accessing The File Menu in Windows Vista

One of the characteristics of Vista is that there might not be any File menu in some of the applications such as Windows Explorer for example.

1. At any time to access this menu, press [Alt].

2. To permanently enable the menus, open “Windows Explorer“.

3. Go to Organize > Folder and Search Options.

4. Click on the “View” tab and check the box for “Always show menus“.

5. Click “OK“.

Use the Checkboxes for the Multiple File Selection in Windows Vista

Enable CheckBoxes

There is a easy way to highlight multiple files without using shift or CTRL by using the checkbox. Once you have enabled this feature, you will see a little checkbox at the upper left corner of each icon in the explorer window. Checking this box will highlight the file.

Rename Multiple Files inside a folder

If you want to rename multiple files in the same folder, then follow the below steps.

  1. Go to the folder in which you want to rename files.
  2. Select all the files you want to Rename.
  3. Press “F2” or “Right click” and select “Rename“.
  4. Enter the prefix for the name you want (e.g. Picture)
  5. This will automatically rename the rest of the files Picture (1).jpg, Picture (2).jpg etc.
