Windows will ask for the password when you are resuming from stanby or hibernation .In order to disable that Prompt for password when resuming from hibernation or stand by in windows Xp, do the following.
1. Open "Start" menu.
2. Select "Control Panel".
3. Choose "Power Options".
4. Go to the "Advanced" tab.
5. Under "Options" remove the "tick mark" for "Prompt for password after returning from standby".
6. Press "Ok".

The Vista Start Menu has links to almost everything: Music, Games, Pictures, Documents, etc. You may not need all of these, or you may need to add some more shortcuts.
To remove these links,
1. Right-click on the taskbar.
2. Click on "Properties".
3. Click on the "Start Menu" tab.

Disabling Windows Vista sidebar is very easy. To do this,
1. Right click on the sidebar or sidebar icon.
2. Choose "properties".
3. Uncheck the "Start Sidebar when Windows starts" checkbox.
4. Then right-click on the icon.
5. Choose "Exit" to close the sidebar.
